About Us

How CARE Began

In 2007, NOAH started to collect education documents, such as IEPs, from parents and guardians for the purpose of sharing them with other families on request.  After the 2008 NOAH conference, a proposal was submitted by a NOAH volunteer to formalize our education document process and make it more accessible to the albinism community.  As a result, the CARE (Creating an Albinism Resource for Education) project was established.  The original CARE team, consisting of six NOAH members, worked together for a year and a half to develop a plan to determine how this program could be set up, what information it should contain, and how the site could assist our families.

What We Do

  • Volunteers manually scrub the education documents submitted by parents and guardians.  (“Scrub” means that we take any personal information off of each document so that privacy can be maintained for the child, family and others listed on the documents.)
  • Certain information is then extracted from the education documents (i.e., goals and objectives, accommodations, assistive technology, etc.) and maintained on a spreadsheet and PDF for easier access to the data.

Who We Are

We are a group of NOAH members who have volunteered to work on this project because we believe it is important to children with albinism and their families.  Our group includes parents of and persons with albinism from a variety of  backgrounds, such as elementary teachers, teachers of the visually impaired, speech therapist, and assistive technology.  The site is managed on a part-time basis.
